Discussion 1:

Countries and companies do not need explicit strategies for technology development. They might want it to improve the business processes and adapt new technologies. Explicit strategies can be referred to as strategies that are well defined and implemented to have clear technological development to the specified business structures. On other hand implicit strategies tend to confine companies and countries to a particular way of thinking such that technological development is done concisely. By this way, this strategy would help to simulate innovation as well as creativity in technological development.

Due to increase in technological advancement and usage of Internet, the dependency on technology and its applications varied on all aspects in our daily lives. Businesses need to address the current demands of modern customers and the market, so the business needs IT enabled solutions to achieve the organizational goals and objectives. With the increase the IT enabled solutions the business competition has grown and bought in the advantage of innovative business strategy. This is the major place where companies have implemented innovative improvement efforts to increase the business value and compete with the competitors. By establishing a good innovative strategy will bring overall success to the organization. Based on my personal experience in working and dealing with IT projects for companies implementing strategies gives the company a major boost as the IT investments are aligned to business activities. But still have a question, how much the companies can benefit from implementing automation in their strategies?

Discussion 2:

You are doing a solid job to address the question presented to you this week for your discussion forum, around the strategies for technology development. I feel a strategy for technology development is required for countries and companies. Keep in mind, I do hold an MBA degree and bring many years of experience as a consultant working with technology at different levels to include the strategic level. So, my contributions to this question and forum might be a little bias in favor of having a well-defined strategy. I feel capital investment in technology development must be strategically aligned with the direction of the country and /or organization. It would make no sense to spend capital dollars to deliver new technology that is not aligned with the strategic vision and direction by the organization. If the strategy the country is to lead on the innovation side of the house, there has to be a technology development roadmap in favor of innovation and related technological developments. Based on the reading this week, the USA ranks number 8 in the world for innovation. In this scenario, there are many opportunities presented to make the USA more competitive and improve our innovation caliber. I also feel in favor of the ideas presented this week by Esko Aho, and how the strategy to embrace collaboration between higher education research institutions, industry key players, and Government would translate into a higher level of innovation.
