Write a research paper in which you define four organizational designs.

To prepare for this assessment, use ******* library to research each of the following designs:

  • Functional organization.
  • Matrix organization.
  • Networked organization.
  • Virtual organization.

You will find that the Capella library contains a vast number of
articles on each of these organizational designs. You should strive to
select at least two for each design in order to get more than one
perspective.

For this assessment, complete the following:

  • Define each of the four designs listed above and then identify a real-world organization example of each.
  • Compare the four types of organizational design in terms of:
    • Structure.
    • Strategies.
    • Challenges they face in today’s environment.
  • Choose one of the organizational designs from the four and
describe how you would use that design to create an organizational
structure that would lead to high performance.

Format this assessment as a research paper following APA 6th edition
guidelines for both style and citing sources, making sure you also use
correct grammar and mechanics. There is no required minimum or maximum
page length; however, you should strive to be as detailed as possible
in addressing each part while also being as clear and concise as
possible.

Please note: The term environment is used throughout this course to mean all of the external
factors that affect an organization. These include, but are not limited
to, the overall global market, the industry as a whole, and the
financial market.

Effective Leadership discussion

As you continue to think about the drivers of engagement and the conditions that allow people to become fully engaged in their work, consider the following questions:

  • Think about the people you know who are not highly engaged at work. Why aren’t they? What’s holding them back?
  • Where do you see a lack of alignment between where people spend their time and effort and where you think they should be directing their effort? Why do you think that is?

These are engagement questions; for the answers, look to the team managers. Wherever you find a highly engaged team, there’s a strong chance the team has a leader who is setting clear goals, empowering employees, providing open and honest feedback, and treating employees fairly and with respect.

Employees are engaged when their managers help them to meet their basic needs. These include:

  • Being emotionally connected to others
  • Perceiving that they are part of something significant with coworkers whom they trust
  • Being cognitively engaged with their work
  • Knowing what is expected of them and having what they need to do their work
  • Having opportunities to feel an impact and fulfillment in their work
  • Having chances to improve and develop

The goal of this project is to identify what’s being done well by others and to look for strategies and behaviors that are repeatable, both by other managers/team leaders and by HR.

Alcoholism

Dante is a 21 year student at a local community college. He has a part time job as a bartender at a local chain restaurant in town where he bartends several nights a week. Dante meets up with his coworkers, as well as classmates at a bar down the street from the community college after the restaurant closes most nights. While he stays out until early morning hours most days, he very rarely skips classes and is maintaining a B/C average in all of his courses. Dante drinks heavily every night of the week but never during the day and has never been arrested for any alcohol related crimes.

Early one morning, Dante wakes to a police flashlight shining into his car window where he is parked outside of the bar he frequents. His car was in park and turned off, his car keys were in the ignition. Dante is given a field breathalyzer and even though he had stopped drinking several hours earlier, his BAC registers at 0.11%. Dante explains to the police officer that he must have gotten into his car drunk and decided to sleep it off rather than drive home. He proudly states that he was making a responsible choice not to drive drunk. The officers arrest Dante for an Attempted DUI, which states that you were presumed to have intended to drive since he was in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition.

Dante’s lawyer suggests he visit an alcohol treatment clinic for an evaluation to use in their upcoming court case. The clinic worker suggests that Dante is a functioning alcoholic and suggests treatment and entering AA.

Instructions

Write a paper of at least one page (double spaced with normal margins and font size, not including headers and footers) discussing the case and the following questions:

  • Discuss your views on Dante’s alcohol use based on section 10.2’s discussion on alcohol trends in young adulthood.
  • Using web based research on alcoholism, write your opinion on whether you agree with the clinic worker’s label of Dante as a functional alcoholic.
  • What possible changes should Dante take in his personal life?
