The microscopic anatomical arrangement of the skeletal muscles is a hierarchy of functional units that work together in the process of muscle contraction. A skeletal muscle cell (fiber) consists of an arrangement of myofibrils and myofilaments that interact with various other proteins in the process of muscle cell contraction.
